Mary Cassatt, American Impressionist

February 5, 2010

Mary cassatt

Today I taught middle school art. I generally enjoy teaching art because there is always lots of paper, pencils, markers and craft supplies readily available. :) Today though the students were watching a video with strict instructions not to touch any of the supplies…. Two of the three classes behaved and watched the movie while the comment, "Why can't I play cards? What do I need to know about this chick for anyway?" pretty much sums up the attitude of the third class.

The video was a made for tv HBO special on Mary Cassatt starring Amy Brenneman (Viloet Turner, Private Practice). As long as you can handle a little lot of cheesiness it was a nice show that shared an insight in to how Mary became one of the great impressionists (clearly). Although by the third viewing I was about over it…

Here's a link to a clip if you're interested.

Happy Friday everyone!
