“the memorial day weekend that wasn’t”

May 29, 2011

Almost every year growing up my family spent Memorial Day Weekend at my Nana’s “lake house” outside of St. Louis.

Because I am now doing grown-up things and living in Colorado it turns out I had to “work” over the holiday weekend. Work you ask? But what’s open on Monday?! Ha! Little did you know that Territory Days — the largest CO Springs street festival, celebrating Old Colorado City as the first capitol of CO — is celebrated on Memorial Day Weekend. That’s right — three days of fried food, mediocre street art and turkey legs…. You have never seen so many turkey legs.

Anywho – we teamed up with a local ice cream shop and are peddling ice cream sandwiches from our booth. Our cookies, their ice = cream delicious. (I might add that I spent a whopping ten hours last week hand building said ice cream sandwiches….). The weather is gorgeous at least and so far we’ve been mildly successful at selling our sandwiches. I took a stroll down the street yesterday and snapped some photos.

I hate when people sell these crown things… I mean they are cute but seriously such a scam.

John Henry bbq sauce!

These dogs just sit still all day and model these “K9 Hats.” Haha

While I’m not exactly lounging at the lake I’ll admit it could be much worse. And really, I’m learning a lot…. about street fairs, portable tents, sanitation laws, ice cream sandwiches and why sometimes things that sound fun are not actually worth the time it takes to prepare, set up, facilitate and take down… :)

Happy Memorial Day to all!

They were like a SUPER long curly potato ship…. I assume they have a machine that does it — imagine if you were peeling a potato and just kept going in circles and never cut it off. So you end up with this long curly-q potato and then fry it up and cover it in chili and cheese. haha

I find this hilarious. “Like ArtsFest, except more…” Haha.
