Here’s the thing. I love St. Patrick’s Day. I know that we don’t celebrate in the original sense and all that but I love the idea of a day of green and drinking devoted to the Irish (which I am by the way!). So there’s that.

In honor of my tied-for-3rd favorite holiday I decided to host brunch! I say that I decided because Johnlawyer had to take a law test about 30 minutes away. He tested until noon and then came back to join the festivities.

I made mimosas, three different quiches and cocoa biscuits with cinnamon butter. My friends brought Irish coffee, thin mint brownies, fruit and hash brown casserole.

We had a lot of food. Which was good…. because after a trip to a bar for parade watching we came back and finished off the leftovers. I made an asparagus, sausage and spinach quiche that resembled this one. (I also used the Martha Stewart crust recipe that’s also in that link).

The next quiche was this artichoke recipe — I used a 9 inch cake pan in lieu of the 9 inch square pan. I got nervous that we would run out of food so I quickly made a crustless tomato, red pepper and cheese quiche that was pretty simple.

I didn’t get a good photo of the biscuits but they were seriously delicious. I followed the recipe exactly but made mine a bit smaller so I ended up with about 19. You must make the cinnamon sugar butter to go with them. You must also try to refrain from eating the butter by the spoonful….. because seriously, it’s still butter.

Kate brought the Irish necklaces and hats (from her school craft closet no less!) and they were perfect!

In the interest of saving money and space I decided to make that stripey green skirt the night before. I probably could have rustled up something green but there’s something about a new item that makes it more exciting. The fabric was actually a vintage (esque) twin sheet. The dark green part at the bottom was the top of the sheet and already finished so I didn’t have to hem it. My needle broke on the very last stitch I made as I was going over the elastic…. I don’t think I have another needle so that was lucky.

We walked downtown and found a perfect spot on the patio of one of our favorite restaurants. We spent a solid few hours enjoying the festivities. Being a small college city, Tallahassee was out in fine form to celebrate St. Patrick’s. The large white tent and three kegs my neighbors set up the night before were sort of telling.

On the plus side, we all got a good nights rest on Saturday because it was time to sleep around 9 pm. Old age is killing us. Ha.

This is my friend Kate looking cute in a fountain. That sums up our day right there.

In totally unrelated news: We reconvened last night to cheer on our basketball team in the NCAA tournament. We’re all terribly sad the season has come to an end but are proud of the season and our ACC Conference Championship. (Should I be a professional spokesperson for FSU Athletics? Yes.)

Haha. It was SO simple Paula. You could do this with your eyes closed. Promise. :) I can teach you!
